When Halima Cisse surpassed the record of having nine children at the same time, Dr. Yousef Alaoui’s goal was clear. Keep your mother and children safe.
In an interview with TODAY Parents, Alaoui, the director of a private clinic in Morocco where Alain gave birth to Cisse, shared the story of the remarkable birth and survival of all nine babies.
“It’s the first time in the world.”
“We’ve seen all kinds of complicated medical situations at the Casablanca Ayn Borja clinic, but I have to say that the birth of unborn children … is the first for us,” he told TODAY Parents. “This is the first time in the world, we are proud to have this extraordinary experience thanks to our medical and technical expertise.”
Cisse, 26, was hospitalized for the first time in his home country of Mali, where doctors performed an ultrasound examination and worried about the possibility of fetal survival.
From the moment Cisse arrived, Alaun և her team was able to extend her pregnancy five weeks ago when she gave birth at 30 weeks. A normal pregnancy lasts 40 weeks, but high-grade multiples are usually born earlier and have complex medical needs. In total, the patient was cared for by 10 doctors և 25 medics from his arrival to delivery.
“We were a team of catheterization of three resuscitators, three anesthesiologists, two gynecologists, three neonatologists, not to mention our emergency team of obstetricians, midwives and newborns, without whom nothing was possible,” he said. “Mrs. Cisse was 25 weeks pregnant when she was admitted to our clinic. Our team was able to extend her pregnancy to 30 weeks.”
But during the delivery, expecting seven children, the doctors got a real shock.
“The look from the ultrasound looked like there were only seven of them, so you can imagine our surprise when we found nine of them at birth,” Alawi said. “Fortunately, this did not disappoint us, as we have one of the largest neonatal resuscitation services in Morocco. Our teams were ready to welcome these children in the world, they could treat them in the best conditions. ”
Alawi said it was shocking that it was just one day in the office for his team of medics.
“During our work you need to know how to deal with stress and nervousness,” he said. “We are following the children, but we can say for sure that we have fulfilled our mission.”
The five girls and four boys were born weighing from 1.1 pounds to 2.2 pounds. Only two other packages of incomplete births have been registered since the 1970s, but all babies have died within days.
The previous world record for multiple births belonged to California mother Natalie (Nadia) Suleiman, who in 2009 gave birth to eight premature but otherwise healthy babies.
As for Cisse և his family, Alau hopes they can return home soon.
“The mother is very healthy,” he explained. “She is no longer in danger. We wish her and her newborns a speedy recovery. We are still following some babies who are still quite fragile. God willing, I think the family will be able to return to Mali in a few years. weeks. “
