The former Wichita Newborn R Us store in West Kellogg is getting a new lease of life, but expect to buy diapers or blends there soon.
After being vacant for more than three years, the building will be transformed into a new Kansas Plumbers րագր Developers և Pipeline Training Home.
Director John Clark said the PPATKS exceeded its 14,000-square-foot center area. Renovation of the 45,000-square-foot R Us building is in line with its growth plans.
“It will be a mix of a classroom, an open laboratory, offices and a warehouse,” Clark said of the new building, which he expects to open in April or May 2022.
“We were looking for a place, it really suited our needs, because there are hotels, nearby food and convenience stores.”
The program is designed for students who want to become travel locksmiths, pipettes or HVAC service technicians. PPATKS creates them on the job while they complete the certification process.
“It’s to earn a program to learn, so our students do not pay anything to attend school because our (union) members pay for it,” Clark said. “They come to school every five weeks for five years.”
Currently PPATKS admits 286 students. Clark wants to reach 600 in the next five years.
He said the new area would help meet that ambitious goal, and he wanted to show it.
“When we open, we will be happy for visitors to come and see what they are up to,” said Clark.
He said anyone interested in the program should contact the PPATKS office.
“I call them life-changing careers. “Not just life-changing, but family-changing, because we have full benefits – pension funds և 401 (k) of health benefits that come with it,” Clark said.
