Bollywood star Karina Kapoor has been abused online by extremists over her baby’s name.
Kapoor was attacked on social media for calling his second son han Yangir, the 17th-century emperor Mughal, meaning “conqueror of the world.” Hindu Kapoor, her husband Saif Ali Khan, a Muslim’s Bollywood star, were abused for their marriage.
The Ug dynasty, the fourth Mughal emperor, tortured and executed Sikh guru Arjan D in 1606, who was opposed to his rule. Many Hindus in India consider Sikhs to be part of a larger Hindu family.
The first couple of couples, now four years old, was named after Timur, a 14th-century Turkish conqueror who brutally liberated Delhi in 1398.
When the name became known, abuses began on social networks. The Uyghur was accused of calling his son a “mass murderer”, a “monster”, a “genocidal maniac”. Some commentators have compared the choice to naming the child Hitler.
Kapoor said he was intimidated by the online abuse, and Khan said he had been thinking for some time about whether he should change Taimur’s name.
When the couple announced the birth of their second son, Jeh eh, in February, some online commenters wondered if it was too short for han oh.
Following the recent publication of Kapoor’s book “Pregnancy Bible”, it turned out that it was a photo of Jeh ei with the caption “han yangir Ali Khan”, online abuses intensified.
One of the commenters wrote on his Twitter page.
Another tweet said: Going to Aurangzeb would make even more sense. ”
The attacks showed how, for some in India, history is political and personal. The figures of the past, their actions are often viewed in the context of current political and religious disputes.
Supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Jan Anata Party (BJK), a Hindu extremist group, have sought to oust the Mughals from power.
This attitude prompted BJP leader Yogi Adityanat, Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister, to rename the province’s Muslim cities and replace them with Hindu names.
Faizabad district became Ayodya. The railway station at the Mughalsara junction was changed to Pandit Din Dayal Upadaya. The city of Allahabad was renamed Prayagraj.
The secular culture of Bollywood has allowed both Hindus and Muslims to flourish. Interfaith marriages have become commonplace. The three ruling stars, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Amir Khan, are Muslims, and two of them married Hindu women.
These interfaith marriages have angered Hindu extremists. For example, Kapoor was attacked online for marrying Khan. The BJP’s “love jihad” campaign was aimed at preventing interfaith marriages on the ground that Muslim men were forcing innocent Hindu women to convert to Islam.
Some have been protected online by Kapoor. One commentator asked why people were still afraid of Emperor Mughal, who died 400 years ago.
Khan’s sister Saba posted her support on Instagram. “What’s in the name?” Love … live, let it be. Children are God’s blessings. ”
Social commentator Parsa Wencateshwar Rao Jr. said that extremist hatred of Muslims sought to offend him.
He said. If Saif Ali Khan had married a Muslim and he had chosen these names, he probably would not have bothered them. “But they are warming up because of a Hindu girl who marries a Muslim who, moreover, chooses Muslim names for her children.”
